Louisiana State Senator James “Jimmy” Harris III – Senate District 4
Senator Harris, is a true New Orleans native son, a graduate of St. Augustine High School. He received his Bachelors of Art in Psychology from Morehouse College and earned his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center.
Professionally, prior to being elected as the State Senator for senatorial District 4 he proudly served as the State Representative for House District 99. He is the former Director of Special Projects for Congressman Cedric Richmond of Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District and the Director of State Relations for the City of New Orleans. He also served as the Legislative Advisor to State Representative Cedric Richmond for then-House District 101. Harris has held senior-level positions at the federal, state, and municipal levels of government. In addition to being the Louisiana State Senator, he currently serves as a Private Practice Attorney.
As State Senator, Harris serves on the committees of Finance, Judiciary A (Vice-Chairman), Senate & Governmental Affairs and Legislative Audit Advisory Council; and serves as Chairman of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, a member of the Democratic Caucus, the Orleans Delegation, and Latino Commission.
Civically, Senator Harris is an active member of Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club and Omega Phi Psi Fraternity Inc. He also is a member of the Association of St. Augustine Alumni, Morehouse College Alumni Association, Louisiana Bar Association, and Louis A. Martinet Legal Society.
